Have you ever wondered what steps are being taken to protect the ecosystems of Chebacco Lake? Do you want to make a difference in your local environment? Would you like to meet like-minded environmentalists who also want to make a change?
Seaside Sustainability is excited to promote a month-long effort to improve the water flow of Alewife Brook on Chebacco Lake, executed by the Chebacco Lake Coalition! They are actively seeking community members who would like to work to help them achieve their goal.
Currently, barriers such as vegetation obstruct water flow and inhibit alewife herring populations’ ability to travel to and from Chebacco Lake. The Chebacco Lake Coalition will lead efforts to remove these barriers, AND volunteers will be instrumental as they work to remove live and dead vegetation as well as other manageable obstructions from the brook. Volunteers will also clear invasive species from the area to improve overall ecosystem health.
This project will take place from August 6 to September 3, 2021. There will be morning sessions from 9am to 12pm and afternoon sessions from 1pm to 4pm at the corner of Apple Street and Western Avenue in Essex, MA. All tools, equipment, and instructions will be provided.
Please sign up for a volunteer session through SignUp Genius, or learn more at the Chebacco Lake Restoration Landing Page. We hope to see you soon!
